iPoh Trip

First time heading over to iPoh and unsure of what to do there? Ever heard from friends, family, or colleagues telling you that there's nothing much to do in iPoh? I will recommend some of the good places (in my opinion) in iPoh I've been to and some places are highly recommended by the locals there.

I travelled (with a friend) to iPoh over the long weekends in August and that was our first time there too. Despite being our first time there, we went there without much planning. #yolo Yups, I know. HAHA!

We walked over to the JB custom (yes walked because of the crazy traffic jam - both humans and vehicles), and we drove up to iPoh at around 9am. It was a crazy morning to begin with, but when we were at JB, the traffic improved. It took us a total of eight hours to drive from JB to iPoh, with three resting points in between.

Such beautiful scenery from our car!

Breath-taking right?

By the time we reached there, it was already evening. Hence, we headed to our airbnb and then we headed out for dinner. Our first meal in iPoh, how can we anyhowly eat right? Hence, we went to try out these:

Chicken rice from Restoran Tauge Ayam Ong Kee

Chicken rice from Restoran Tauge Ayam Ong Kee

Chicken rice from Restoran Tauge Ayam Lou Wong

Yes, you see it correctly! We went to two places to eat the same food! We were really hungry and also as the chicken rice there were really good too! If you prefer tender white chicken with stronger taste, I highly recommend that you go for Restoran Tauge Ayam Lou Wong. If you love tauge (or beansprouts) or prefer crunchier and juicier tauge, then I highly recommend you to go for Restoran Tauge Ayam Wong Kee. But if you have stomach space, of course I recommend you to go try both. Both places have their own unique taste!

    Restoran Tauge Ayam Lou Wong
49, Jalan Yau Tet Shin, Taman Jubilee,
    30000 Ipoh,
    Negeri Perak, Malaysia

    Opening Hours:
    10.30AM to 12AM
    (Closed on Monday)

If you manage to find Restoran Tauge Ayam Lou Wong, you should be able to find Restoran Tauge Ayam Wong Kee; they're diagonally opposite each other!

On our second day in iPoh, we went to explore one of iPoh's caves - Gua Tempurung!

The cave entrance

They offered 4 different types of cave tour - two of them are dry tours whilst the other are wet tours. Due to time constraint, we took the second tour - dry tour that stops at Platform 5.

Now I will let the photos do the talking for this cave!

This shape is formed naturally through corrosion

Look at the effect the lights are making!

I have over 200 photos just from the cave exploration itself and I won't be posting them all here because:
  1. I'm lazy, and
  2. I think y'all should go explore this beautiful cave yourselves!
Oh! People with knee-cap joint or height issues may have a problem exploring this cave though! Lots of steep-climbing (up and down) of stairs involved. Also be sure to wear the proper attire, shoes, and bring water!

The whole duration for tour 2 is supposed to be 1hr 45mins, but because we took lots of photos along the way, we took about 2.5hrs. We really enjoyed this tour very much and we would definitely come back again but we'll be going for tour 4 instead! 😉

Our third day in iPoh was only half day as we will be heading to the Cameron Highlands in the afternoon. So we did more eating and visited the Kellie's Castle, which we both regretted going. Kellie's Castle was a waste of money!

Anyway, we went to meet up with my friend's friend and his wife (both are locals) for dim sum. The place is called Canning Dim Sum.

The dim sums were awesome~ But of course they can't be compared to those we had in Hong Kong. So I'm just going to briefly mention about this and skip... Haha!

The last eating place I'd like to recommend in iPoh is Lim Ko Pi.

    Lim Ko Pi
    10, Jalan Sultan Iskandar,
    30000 Ipoh,
    Negeri Perak, Malaysia

    Opening Hours:
8AM to 5PM (Tue to Sun)
    Closed on Monday

White coffee
Quite acidic/sourish; it's not what my stomach can take...

Dou hua (beancurd)

Can't remember what this is..
I think it's ice shaving with brown sugar

Soya milk with glass jelly

Dry curry mee with pork (they have different meat too)

Watermelon ice-blended! This is super good!

There were lots of people visiting Lim Ko Pi, be it tourists or locals. Their food is amazingly great! Like it's surprising to see they have such delicious food in such an environment! I doubt we can find any shops in such environment with such food standard in Singapore!

Alright, the above are the places I feel they're good and worth to give it a try! If you're going to iPoh soon and you happen to chance upon my blog, hopefully you'll enjoy most or all of the places I've recommended!

That's all I have for the iPoh trip... Cheers!
